What happens after you sign up?

Most people start by adding a wallet, entering or importing transactions, and then using the dashboard to see what changed this month.

  • No charges during your free trial
  • You can test the full budgeting workflow before deciding to continue
  • If founding pricing is available, it is applied automatically during signup

Questions are handled by email so you can get a clear answer without guessing your way through the product.

  • Email support@bulabudget.com for setup, privacy, or refund questions
  • Most questions are answered within one business day
  • If an answer needs more review, you should still receive a timing update by email

Getting started

Start small so your first month feels clear instead of overwhelming.

  • Create your workspace and add one wallet first.
  • Add or import a few transactions so the dashboard has something useful to show.
  • Review the dashboard before you worry about cleanup rules and fine-tuning.

Import CSV transactions

Bring in historical data quickly so you can start seeing useful patterns fast.

  • Go to Imports and upload your bank CSV file.
  • Open Transactions to review what was imported.
  • Re-check imported transactions after adding new rules.

Categorize using keywords

Keywords help turn raw transactions into spending reports you can actually trust.

  • Add a keyword for a shop name, biller, or common word in the description.
  • Assign a category so matching transactions are grouped automatically.
  • Use Merchant Rules separately if you want to rename the merchant.

Merchant Rules vs Keywords

These tools do different jobs, and using them in the right order reduces cleanup work later.

  • Merchant Rules rename messy merchant names. Example: vodafone topup becomes Vodafone.
  • Keywords assign categories. Example: burger king can be assigned to Eating Out.
  • Use Merchant Rules to clean names first, then Keywords to sort spending.

Understanding dashboard insights

Use filters and trends to spot where money changed and what deserves attention next.

  • Switch wallets or categories to see focused trends.
  • Compare periods to spot changes in cash flow.
  • Use recent activity to catch surprises early.

Troubleshooting

Most setup issues are solved in a few quick checks.

  • CSV issues: confirm the file uses the template columns and clear dates.
  • Uncategorized items: add a keyword or update a category rule.
  • Messy merchant names: add a Merchant Rule, then apply it to past transactions.
